In a recent thread (`In retrospect, would you move again to Malta?`) ,
there were a few comments on the use of escrow (and of non-Maltese landlords.)
It was suggested that a new thread open in this area. So here it is.

When renting, has anyone used escrow to place the deposit , and had it returned
in full, with no ill-feeling from the landlord?

no such thing as escrow in Malta - and I seriously doubt any landlord in Malta / Gozo would accept that arrangement

it will come eventually but probably not in my lifetime

You do get escrow in Malta but it tends to be a thing only in managing trusts.

Generally if something along those lines are needed a notary can hold onto money with instructions to later release but its not like escrow.

I can't imagine anyone would bother for rentals unless its a hugely expensive property - and then it would probably be some kind of private arrangement involving agents.
