Keeping in touch while living in South Africa

Hello everyone,

What are the best ways you've found for keeping in touch with friends and family back home while living in South Africa? How frequently do you stay in touch with loved ones?

Are there local equivalents to common instant messaging and online video calling services that you prefer or are more widely used?

If there is a sizeable time difference, how do you manage this?

Do you make international phone calls from a landline or mobile phone from South Africa? What do you think of the cost?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

i use Watsapp for daily communication with my family at home.i have found it very suitable.it can attach videos,we can also share prayers from all over the world.it can do anything.its so lovely

SKYPE (local USA number for family to dial), Facebook, WhatApp, E-Mail

Skype to a land line in the UK, or Whattsapp to those who have it.

I do whtsap and sometimes call using a cell phone. I find it a bit cheap using MTN.
