Cough Problems: Looking for Doctor/Hospital Recommendations

Hello guys, just got here in Saigon three weeks ago and I just caught this recurring cough that won't let me sleep well at night. Any recommendations for cheap but good doctors or hospital? How much do you think (approximately) it costs? :) Thanks everyone !!

Hello rizahopewolf,

Honestly it's hard to recommend a 'cheap and good' doctor/hospital here in HCM.
It's all your luck and opinions differ from person to person.
As for the cost, it all depends on what tests the Dr. may ask you to take.

Your cheapest options are VN Govt. hospitals (out patient).
On another thread one such hospital is recommended. You can try there.

I had a similar recurring respiratory problem (not coughing) during sleep and I went to a VN Govt. hospital. My Dr. there could speak some English but the staff couldn't. I spent about 450k VND including check up and a couple of tests (chest x-ray and blood test for infection).
Better to stay prepared with little more money in case they ask for additional tests etc.

Cho Ray Hospital is another option. They have a foreigner section. Expats usually go there for WP health check ups.
It could be more expensive than average VN Govt. hospitals.

Cho Ray Hospital
201B Nguyen Chi Thanh Street
District 5, Ho Chi Minh City

If you go to a private clinic or hospital, expect a bill of around 600k - 800k VND (little more or less) depends on the complexity of your problem.

If you suspect lung infection  you can try PHOI VIET Respiratory Diseases Center in Dist. 10.
They have Drs who speak English. They also have necessary equipment for different pulmonary tests.
Consultation fee is 200k VND.

PHOI VIET RESPITATORY CENTER
20-22 Ngô Quyền Ward 5 District 10
Ho Chi Minh City

International clinics in HCM are not cheap. If you have an insurance cover you can go there.

Consult a physician ASAP.
Serious pulmonary and respiratory complications are on the rise in HCM.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

you can try gargling warm salt water you make at home a few times a day.

Have you considered that your cough might not be pathogenic at all but related to air pollution?  Three weeks would be just about the right amount of time for the irritation from particulate matter to take effect.

You can go Cho Ray hospital at 201B Nguyễn Chí Thanh, HCMC.

That was my first thought too.  Perhaps the OP could try wearing face mask?  Not the useless surgical masks, but the N95 with valve masks.

It may be as simple as common cold.  Weather has been weird and wet lately and noticed that a lot of people are coughing.

I live far away from D1 with fresh air and I've been coughing for the last week with a slight fever.  It all depends on types of cough you have.  Wet or dry cough?  Itchy throat?  I got my western medicine off street pharmacist and after 2 days it went away.

Thank you!! I saved all these hospitals in case I need in the future. Fortunately, my cough has improved after gargling a concoction of Betadine and warm water and a medicine called Hapacol CF. I also started wearing mask. :) Thanks so much for the help!!

Heyy!! I considered that too. I got a mask that filters pollution well. The proper ones, same as that of AQT Blue or something. I also gargled Betadine and warm water and tool some cough suppressants. It's wayyyyy better now and don't need the doctor. Thanks a lot!! ❤️

First it was a wet cough with phlegm and then it got slightly better and then had dry, hollow cough with nothing coming out and a sore throat. But now I'm wayyyyy better. Thank you!! ❤️

I don't know anything about AQT Blue.  Is it the name of a company?

Make sure your mask is at least a NIOSH-approved N95 or P95 respirator.  N100 or P100 masks would of course be the best, but they're costly and difficult to find outside of the States.  We have a box of reusable and disposable N95 to use daily, and a couple N99 and P100 that we save for a China trip.

You need a good health coverage: 1 450 000 per consultation, minimum

Would any of you share where I can buy the N95 masks here in hcmc?  Thanks in advance.

I haven't bought any in Saigon since my stash of N95 masks from 3M that I brought over is still healthy, and I also plan to buy more when we go to Singapore in Dec.  However, I saw they're sold online for 27K - 79K.

NB:  For the list above, I only searched for 3M valved masks that are made in the US (I couldn't find P95 or any N and P higher than 95.)

Before we moved here, I'd read many articles written by Richard Saint Cyr (an American physician who lived and practiced in Beijing for a decade) on his tests of masks both in the testing lab and in real life.  In the end, I decided to stay with 3M over fashionable designer masks.

Some of the listings from Lazada are for multiple masks (hence the higher price).

I don't know how many links are allowed, so I stop at 10, but there are many more.

:o:D  thanks.
