@coolboy999, now please provide any constructive feedback if you have.

Bon jour
In a hospital you have to apply preferably in a private sector.  In govt sector even locals are in waiting... unless you are a specialist with unique degree or experience then you have better chance......Good luck...

Hi there,

I am looking to move to Mauritius in June this year. I am from South Africa with an honours degree in psychology. I would like to further my career and do counseling in Mauritius. Whether it be school counseling or joining a practice. Does anyone have any tips or connections that could possibly provide an opportunity for me?

Anything would be appreciated.

Hi,

To work as a counselor, you will need an Occupation Permit either as a Professional or a Self Employed, each with different conditions.

As a professional, you will have to find a job first. There are no other ways than to browse through recruitment agencies online or contact companies or institutions individually.
That said, it won't be easy as the job contract will need to carry a minimum monthly salary of at least MUR 60,000, which is way above the threshold usually paid to careers in your field. That's why local companies or institutions are likely to be reluctant to hire a foreigner.

A 'Self Employed, permit on the other hand will require a minimum monetary investment and a minimum turnover each year.

Hi Please can you DM me

Hi

Can we discuss on DM?

If I may add to WinstonH reply to your enquiry, having formerly qualified as a therapeutic counseller (and was also a former RMN [registered Mental Nurse] in the UK) if I've read your info properly, simply having a broad based first degree in Psychology, 'unless it was specifically geared up to focus on counselling approaches/techniques' will otherwise be quite inadequate of itself for going straight into counselling (I.e. Psychotherapeutic counselling practices). So for sure you will need to seek out actual counselling practices/services & the relevant licensing authorities here to be able to do it here.
Hope you obtain positive steps in securing your intended career in Mauritius.

Finance? Yes...if you have the right profile and possess credentials not found on the island.

Tourism...mostly top management and executive positions...the government is actively making sure Mauritians are promoted to management positions via transfer of knowledge and in recent years, it's a little bit harder for expats to join the local hospitality industry for some type of jobs
