My sister and I have a similar income, her living in the UK, me in Indonesia.
She has a nice but second hand car and a house but has little left after bills.
I have a house and a new car I don't have credit on and half my cash goes into savings every month.
I rarely think about the cost of much as far as everyday stuff goes and we book hotels without worry about how much we're going to spend.

Basically, my darling sister is crackers to stay in the UK.

I really don't see the attraction to the UK, sure it has heaps of history, but doesn't everywhere? It's just so expensive now, it's crazy.
I kind of get the language thing and most people speak English, so the UK is on the top of the list.

As for me, my sister earns way more than me in Cardiff, they have 2 cars, a large mortgage and she is older than me.
I have a larger house, a larger garden without a mortgage. We only have one car because the public transport system here is very good and so cheap compared to the UK.
We eat out a few times a week, as we have lots of Wine Taverns in the area and they cook home cooked meals for next to nothing and sell their own wine cheaply. I was going to say the weather is better here, but not sure after the UK had that little heat wave ;) But generally we longer summers. Nothing standstills in Winter either.

After arriving into UK we lived for first 12 months and loved living in Cardiff, Wales, UK and as a Aussie I travelled to Indonesia for 3 weeks at a time and sorry to say; there's no comparisons: living in Cardiff is like living in Paradise, Friendly people living within a picturesque location with a Bay; Beaches; Green Space; fab restaurants & Shoppibg Centeres plus great Sporting send Entertainment Centers and the list continues to grow - like easy access by train into London or just a quick drive; train or flight from anywhere you wish to go!   Good size homes with fair housing prices!  What's not to like about Cardiff;  their weather was always grey and rained daily and no job for hubby after 12 mths. Which was what brought us into relocating for a job in Reading, Englad.   A better location for access into London and better weather than Wales. Seldom rains.  However, the English are not very sociable or friendly.   We are planning to relocate to Southampton.
