Moving to Sheffield - paying deposit from abroad?

Hello!

I am French and I decided to relocate to Sheffield as I was offered a job there. Moving in a week, I am currently looking for a room and I have found some nice offers, since I am lucky enough to arrive when students seem to leave and there are plenty of offers on the market.

However, I have one specific issue: I would like to rent a room before I fly to the UK, and to already have my room the day I arrive, but that implies paying a deposit, and most probably the first month, from where I am now, which is kind of risky with all those stories of fake accommodations where landlords get a transfer and then disappear when the money arrives on their account. Is there any way to lessen the risk/make sure everything is legal and secure my accommodation from where I am?

I would suggest booking into a small hotel for a few days then renting when you can look at places in person.
Loads of rental properties all over the city ranging from cheap and
rooms in shared houses to very nice flats or houses.

Yes there are many private rented place house/flats/apartments in which you can rent through estate agents whih will ensure that your bond and your 1st months rentis secure and you can move straight into your property however a lot of companys do you like you to view the property in person 1st before actually agreeing to a tenancy agreement.]

Hope this helps..

Go to one of the Rooms direct sights and rent direct from the landlord and cutout all the bs from the agents.

Contact the university, you can probably rent a room in Halls for a short period. View in person before sending money.
