The best services to use when moving to Bulgaria

Hello everyone,

What were the biggest hurdles you faced when moving to Bulgaria? Were there any services available that helped?

Which services helped you most upon your arrival in Bulgaria? Were there any that helped you adapt and integrate in your new home?

Are there any services that you wished were available when you moved to Bulgaria?

Did you find the price of the different services available reasonable? Were there any that were overpriced, to your mind?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Without Doubt My Translator, who helped me with 2 property,s,1 Bought & 1 Sold,,she has also helped me with various legal documents,,so honest, reliable & not expensive,,,My Estate Agent in VT was very helpful & trustworthy,,,Local Mayor (English speaking) sorts out any problems,,,I do find Postal service here terrible,,& Customer Service leaves alot to be desired ,,☺

I totally agree, customer service, or complete lack of , is one of the things that frustrates me the most here.

Yeah, you are absolutely right. Customer service is a problem.

On the other hand, it has always dismayed me how people willing to pay the minimum (or even less)  always have requirements for top class products and top class service!

This is quite typical for two categories of people: expats coming to Bulgaria and for Bulgarians, that live abroad .. on their return here. And almost never for the others.

I haven't made the move yet, am still at the preparation stage. I found it useful to hire 'virtual assistants' in Bulgaria, who could answer my questions about the locality, find out information for me, give me unbiased local opinions about locations and such.

Now that I'm travelling in Bulgaria, exploring the places on my shortlist in reality, I've hired some of the same assistants to meet me, show me around, advise me, make phone calls for me, come to estate agents and properties with me and such. Again, it's useful to have a local guide and get  unbiased local opinions. It's great to be able to say, 'I need such and such, what's the best place to get it?' 'Do you think this is a good location for me?'  'Can you translate this conversation?' and 'Can you come to the estate agent with me?'  The great thing is that these assistants already know my requirements and priorities from our previous cooperation online.

When I move here, they'll be able to help me settle in, arranging things, and I know this will be hugely helpful.

The hourly fee for a freelance assistant in Bulgaria is relatively low and can save a lot of time, money and mistakes, so I recommend this method.

(If anyone wants to hire an assistant for a few hours of research or local help I can put you in touch with the ones I've hired and found good. They're mostly in the Plovdiv area. Some are professional virtual assistants, some are university students earning a bit of money with freelance work.)
