I looks like the only way to get my better half to give expatriation to the Caribbean a serious thought is to mitigate the hot, humid climate. (Sheesh)
Is anyone familiar with the area and could point me in the right direction. Perhaps there are other locations that I haven't found yet.

Jarabacoa and it's surrounding towns are also in a high elevation. There is a small expat community there and it's less than an hour drive from the second largest city, Santiago.

It is a beautiful area but no beach nearby. Some places along the river actually remind me a bit of the foothills in Colorado.
