hi dear,

nepal is observing tourism year 2011.
u r safe. welcome to nepal

Hi!SaraArgentina no need to worry about the political situion and security of Nepal now.AS of now 2011 is gona observing as a tourism year. It's the right time you are welcome in Nepal.

Sara,
I live in Kathmandu and the first time I found myself walking at night I was a bit apprehensive, but then all the people would pass and say, 'nameste' and suddenly realized how safe it really was. Young men have helped me across the street, even when they were going the other direction and it wasn't because I look feeble, but because they have respect for their elders.

I did have a situation come up with a young Nepali man who was just a hanger-on and called the tourist police to have the situation taken care of. They sent the young man packing and I have not seen him since. They treated me very well and spoke Englih.

The Nepali people are warm, kind, gentle and love America and Europe. Don't do anything stupid, like bye street drugs, and you will be fine. There is a large expat community living here and they are mostly in their own neighborhoods so you can meet people you will like. All the Nepali will want to be your friends; they get bragging rights for western friends.

I know you will love it here. Let me know if you need help getting settled. I really love Nepal!

Hi everybody,
How are you? I am very, very, very, very, very sorry for the delay in posting my question. I am wishing to come to Nepal this summer to volunteer in an orphanage! I wish to know if the current political situation will have any impact for tourists coming! Also, I know that trafficking is a problem in Nepal mainly by the Indian border! Will there be any problems for any torusits and are foreigners suspetable to these? Thank you very much for your help! I hope all is well and please take care!

Aishu

They have a saying here, 'Guest is god.' Unfortunately it is not likely Nepali who are doing things like human trafficking at the border.

If you have a problem in Nepal you can call the tourist police and they will help. They are very helpful. I had a problem and they handled my little issue like it was really serious.

When I first got to Kathmandu I got lost at night and soon it was 10 pm in dark alley ways and I was nervous. Here came a group of about 4 Asian young men and I felt like I was in a Bruce Lee movie. As I clutched my purse and braced myself they passed with 'namaste.'

I broke a tooth and had a problem understanding people to find the dentist. A young man showed up and took me up to the dentist and acted as translator because the dentist didn't speak English. I thought he worked there until he left with me out to the street. He was a college student and was being respectful to an old lady. They help me across the street, escort me and have this really positive attitude toward foreigners, especially anyone of a mature age. I am only in my fifties and im perfect health, so it wasn't personal at all. They were just doing what they are taught to do.

There are some who will try to get as much of your money as they can, but I haven't heard of anything happening in a violent way toward a tourist in the five months I've been in Kathmandu.

Bad stuff can happen anywhere, but I think you are fine in Nepal. I love this country.
