Mistakes expats make in Nigeria

Hello everyone,

Did you make any mistakes when you first moved to Nigeria? What were they?

How did you address your mistakes? Did you learn anything from them?

With hindsight, what would you do differently?

Are there any tips you could give future expats in Nigeria to help them avoid these kinds of mistakes?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Priscilla

I stayed in nigeria for 4 yrs safely . My observation is that nigeria is not fully safe country .
1. Avoid going at night untill its emergency .
2 after 11 pm dont go to clubs which are not safe .
3 night time always go with your nigerian friend only .
4 dont trust on anyone unless you know the person .
5 dont go into crowded area for long time .
6 cybercrime is too much so beware it

Mybrain2003, No country is fully safe so I don't understand what you mean by your statement, I go out most nights and never had any issues, the people are some of the nicest I have ever met. Your issues are that of perception

Regarding cyber crime, this is bigger in India than anywhere elsewhere else.

Make sure you do not contravene anti slavery laws. Like many Arab countries, the legislators and police are strenuously backward.

If the police stop you when driving, don't wind down your window to talk to the thieving low lives.
Keep the window a few cms down, get on your phone and and tell them you are calling your lawyer.
The police are totally corrupt and hell bent on petty bribery rather than stopping crime.
