I live in Panajachel on Lake Atitlan. I have been here almost two years. In my experience, the cost of living here is much lower than Canada, although it it getting more expensive due to rising prices and the effects of foreign exchange. I will relay my numbers based only my experiences in Pana. Prices vary widely around the country. Bigger cities are more expensive and have more amenities.

> How much does it cost to rent an apartment/house in Guatemala?
I have lived in a fancy fully furnished one-bedroom house for $390 (U.S.) all inclusive. I have lived in a one-bedroom casita for Q1700 plus utilities. I am now living in a studio apartment for Q825 plus utilities.

> How much do you pay for your public transport tickets (bus, subway, train, tram)?
Tuk-tuks cost Q5 per person.

> Staple food: what do people eat and how much do they pay for basic food like bread, rice or pasta?
I kept track of food prices at the local grocery store here. It's from 2015/2016 but the prices don't change that much. My blog page on food prices.

> How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc.?
My portion of the electricity bill is around Q200 a month. (I live in a bachelor/studio apartment.) A 20-lb tank of gas for the stove is Q110, I think. We don't pay for water.

> How much do you pay for your Internet/phone subscription?
I pay Q325 per month fo 4MB speed. I pay about Q100 a month for a very simple phone on a pay-as-you-go plan, no contract. I don't have a smartphone.

Cafe Loco in Panajachel makes great espressos and lattes and other awesome drinks for around Q12.
