Can anyone help with some general questions about Mallorca?

Hola! I am considering moving from Malta to Mallorca this year. I am 35yrs old, speak fluent Spanish but no Mallorquin, tho very happy to learn some, married to a Spanish guy from mainland Spain and we have a 1 year old son who is 'learning' both Spanish and English. We both work from home so we are not worried about commuting (though eventually school commute will be important). My questions are...

1) What are education standards like Mallorca? Any opinions on state vs private schools? I am aware that generally speaking education standards are not as good in Spain as other countries, so am a little worried about this. It would be a deal breaker for us if schooling is no good. We are happy to save on other things and pay for private school if that's what we need to do. Ideally we prefer his education in an international school teaching in English with a good mix of foreign students and locals. Any opinions here?

2) I fully expect Mallorca to be very touristy in summer. Any suggestions for areas to live (either Palma or further afield) that are nice, with good facilities but not too disturbed by tourists in the summer? Since we all speak Spanish and should find it relatively ok to pick up some Mallorquin we can consider some more 'local' areas.

Thank you so much!

Hello, I am a Spanish State Secondary School teacher in Spain, and I can asure there are very good public schools here, but many others are not qualified like that. Better to get your own findings around your local area. If you can afford and you rather prefer an International atmosphere school apply for a private school.

Mallorquín is good to be spoken but It is not compulsory. Administration,  education and ordinary life always runs both in Spanish and Catalan, but the best choise I presume is using German as an extra language,  it is really spread throughout the isles.

I hope you could find helpful  this information. Very welcome to Spain. Have a nice stay with us. Best wishes

Hola, we have lived on Mallorca for other 30 yrs.  Both our children were educated in private (International) schools and have since gone on to graduate in top British Universities.  As already mentioned, Mallorqui is not compulsory here - Spanish and English are more than enough to socialise throughout the community.

Mallorca being of great beauty is somewhat underrated and it would be wise to come and visit to find that quiet place you seek.  There are many choices depending on whether you wish to rent or buy, villa or apartment, away from the beach or local, etc,  We live in a very quiet area (Bendinat) which is only 15 mins from the centre of Palma.

If you require and further information, please don't hesitate in contacting me.

Hello just to say it was very kind of you both to respond and very informative! Thank you :) Excited to explore Mallorca a little bit more.
