Is there anywhere to exchange UK coins ?

Hello,
Can someone advise me if its possible to exchange UK coins to Euros on the island ?

Thanks

It does depend on the amount but you could try a bureau de change.

http://www.eurochange.com.mt/ExchangeBureaux.aspx

There is one in Melleiha at the bottom of the high street,

or Malta airport or any large hotel.

Terry

Several shops in Bugibba / Qawra will take £ and quote the rate outside.

Everyone I have spoke to only take notes, not coins :(

How much money (coins) are you trying to exchange?

You may find someone on the forum who is returning to the UK and is willing to give you some € in exchange.

Its about £30,all in £2/£1 coins.

Worth about €33,but i'd happily exchange for €25.

Hi. I will take them off your hands. I am working in Naxxar today if you can meet me at lunchtime?

A first time poster. Thank you but no thank you.

Actually I'm not a first timer but forgot my password and having changed my email address, couldn't get a new one. I used to post as Grizabella and have been on the site since 2012 when I first moved here. Good luck in finding someone to exchange your coins.

After that rudeness I think most members will not feel inclined to help.

According to your profile you have only been a member yourself for 3 days!

I'm not the one trying to meet up with strangers with cash !! That was suggested to me !!

I wasnt meant to be rude.Someone registering/posting just to arrange a meet up to exchange cash doesn't seem like normal behaviour.

It looks like someone was trying to help you out, it's not as though it's a large amount of money. I doubt their plan is getting rich by meeting up with strangers offering to knock a couple of euros off an exchange rate.

Personally I'd just keep hold of it and use it when you're in the UK with it being such a small amount.   I don't know of anywhere, but I'd just keep hold of it.

But did you not do just that?
Did you not register just to arrange to meet up to exchange cash?
Is that more normal than the other new member?

I am not new to Expat and have posted over 800 times but if we were to meet, I would still be a complete stranger!

Hi Ray,

Thanks for replying. Please have a read at my first post. I didnt register to arrange a meet up to exchange cash.I asked where I could exchange.

You must know someone who is likely to go to the UK, so just ask them to change the money for you!
Unfortunately, you are in Malta and I live in Gozo otherwise I would change it for you, even though I don't go back to the UK now, but I would give it to my Granddaughter from Bavaria for when she visits the UK.

Good Luck
Ray

I dont know anyone and no-one will be visiting me for a while. :(

Just a note to say that the old £1 coin will cease to be legal tender in the UK in Sept as a new coin is coming out soon. Too many forgeries.

Then I need someone to help me soon !

Hi again,

Can anyone help me with this, either tomorrow or Monday latest? Expected a payment from UK but its being delayed by a day or two due to New Year etc.

I have £27 in £2 and £1 coins. Would only be looking for €25. Need to meet in Bugibba/Qawra,obviously outdoors and in public.

Hi

I can meet you on Tuesday afternoon (currently abroad arrive back in Malta earlier that day)

Can I suggest the Oracle Casino in Qawra at 3pm? (cameras everywhere and you have to sign-in with membership card or ID so both parties are protected!)

If this is suitable, I will PM you my Malta mobile number

Hi,

I'm not a member, but could meet you just at the door outside ?

No, I will meet you inside

Just bring your passport and you can be registered in a couple of minutes

It's €25, why all the cameras and security? I might be missing something, but if you really need the money that quickly, we'll have a drive up and change it for you today?

We don't have plans to go back to England, but we might have a visitor before October when the pound coins become obsolete.  I'll give you my husband's mobile to arrange somewhere to meet if you like? I'm not getting out of the car, it's too cold.  :D

Big thank you to SAM4321 and husband. Really helped me out big time and I'm so grateful.
