Maternity leave

Hi guys,

A new topic for the forum: Maternity leave!
Could someone explain to me how it works in Bulgaria?
I know that we can take up to one year with 90% of our salary, but which are the requirements?

Who pays for this 90%? The company or the national social insurance?
Then, how long should you have worked in your company and / or  Bulgaria to be able to have this right?

Thank you very much in advance

Elsa

Еlsa, here is what I found by google in Bulgarian: http://www.bulgariasega.com/bulgaria_novini/5545.html

It looks complicated, but I think it is rather simple: you must have had paid tax/social security for at least 12 months before you could be eligible for the paid maternity leave. It is 410 days, of which 45 could be used before the birth. Up to 135 days are considered sick leave, after that till the balance of 410 are considered days off to raise a child or maternity leave. It could be either you or your employer that pays the tax, depending if you are self employed or an employer. It is the national insurance that pays you the 90%, but it is based on the tax paid by your/your employer on your behalf for the past 12 months before your maternity leave.
