Try YWAM, a Christian organization that works with all kinds of ministries in Belo Horizonte. They are all volunteers too and most speak really good english. They have a base where they live and work from. They might accept you even if you are not a religious person.

I agree, YWAM Belo Horizonte is a great organization with homes for street kids. It's worth checking out and seeing if they have volunteer opportunities.
When I lived in BH before though I understood that it was against the law to volunteer when you have tourist visa. Policia Federal actually told me that when I went there to extend my tourist visa.
