Property prices in Laos

Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Laos is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Laos?

What about you? Where do you live now? Is it a place you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your clarifications.

Priscilla

This is an old thread but in my experience it seems that Vientiane is the place that most people gravitate to as it is the hub of the country with most expat companies having their offices there.
Prices for real estate are outrageous in Vientiane. Can pay anywhere between $250,000 to $1 million. The cheaper places are further out from the city centre.
Our house (4 bedroom, 3 bathroom single storey) is only 7 minutes drive from the city centre in a quiet dead end street.
Paid $75,000 for it in 2011 and late last year the Chinese neighbor offered $200,000.

I have no knowledge about real estate procedures, taxes etc as I left that to my wife and she never asked me for any money to cover this.
Maybe someone can enlighten us as to what happens now when purchasing a house or apartment.

I would like to know. Skyrocketed. Don Det has turned to gold. Mate brought a rice field 3 yrs ago.doubled in value. Lao is the new frontier.
Stumpy ,  whats the value now on your place?

I would not sell it for less than $265,000.

Are the Chinese now moving on Laos, buying up big?
The have changed the face of Sihanoukville real quick.

A Casino on Don Det by 2020?  no  no

Chinese have been here in Laos forever and have been buying real estate, businesses etc for a long time now.
Will hold onto my house for a while longer.
