Finding affordable housing in Shanghai is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.
What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Shanghai?

Hello back.
What comes to living in Shanghai there are areas like Jing'an , former french concession and Gubei what are very popular among the expat families.
But beware every year the prices are going up, but for affordable living under 10 K one might have wires coming out of the wall, something broken and landlord not willing to change so often. Then again there are those individuals who do help and are best landlords. Just want to tell than based on research its easier to get once deposit back with an agent or super good landlord.
I have been in Shanghai for 5 years. First lived in laoshimen (not reccomend, loads of thiefs), then lived near west nanajing road/people square (good areas, reccomend) and not I live in Jing'an for 3 years (super happy) top of all got lucky with the landlord.
