Honorarios de agencia

I've been looking on idealista and Fotos Casas for an apartment to rent in Madrid.

I received a reply yesterday about a flat that is managed by an agency. They mentioned that I have to pay them a month's rent (€600) for their service.

I was a bit shocked that the tenant would be expected to pay these fees. It makes no difference to me that the apartment is managed by an agency. It's saving the landlord time and hassle.

Why am I expected to pay for this? Is it normal in Spain and how can this be avoided?
