Marriage legality of marrying Colombian national

I am British citizen  and plan to marry my Colombian boyfriend in Colombia. If we got married in Colombia, is our marriage valid in England. In case we get divorce, is my Colombian spouse has a right to claim or entitled half of my savings and properies in the UK. I would like to know before I will tie a knot. Thank you.

As long as your marriage is legally valid in Colombia, it will be recognised in the UK. Assuming your fiance plans to apply for the spouse visa in the UK, as long as you can present a legitimate document and an official translation you're golden.

As for divorce, it depends on where you get divorced, and why, and a host of other factors like whether you have kids, whether you both worked, how much you each earned, whether your finances were arranged jointly or separately, and so on and so on etc.

You would need to consult with a qualified divorce lawyer when and where it comes to that. It should go without saying that, in general, strangers on the internet should not be relied upon for legal advice.

Thank you.

I mean, say I got married in Colombia but plan to file a divorce in England. Has he got any right to get half of my savings and properties. I just wonder.

I found some resources on that, but it really depends on too many things to predict at this point, including how long you're married before you divorce. He might, though.
