Philippine Catholic Church Expects Annulment Cases To Be Free Soon

Regardless of your feelings about the breakup of a marriage, many Filipinos are stuck in a failed or abusive marriage simply because of church and or civil law with regard to annulment of the union.

Marriage annulment in the Phils has 2 parts to it.  While the Catholic church may now be open to the idea of allowing annulments, this only applies to the spiritual side. The legal aspect is a totally different animal altogether.

The Catholic church in the Phils has unduly burdened ordinary Filipinos with their strong opposition of annulment, divorce, and birth control; state matters that should not be dictated by the church.

The Phils is the only country in the world (other than the Vatican) that does not allow divorce. Even Malta approved their divorce law just a few years back.

These being said, it is now up to the Phil Congress to approve a divorce law bill that was recently filed.  There will be fireworks when this gets done ... finally!
