Buying and living in Carcassonne ??

We hope to buy a house in Carcassonne town with small garden and my Husband would like a garage.  All to cost peanuts of course. We have a large kinda grown up family and hope to live permanently in about 5 years or less. Meantime, we have no idea how to go about it. We are going to fly over in a couple of weeks to see some houses.It has taken us some time to settle on a town. Are we mad ? We have spent a Christmas there and loved it. We have traveled a lot of France but Carcassonne seems to tick a lot of boxes. Anyway, would love to chat with anyone who has any advice or just to gab, Regards D
