Visiting Izmir.... Need recommendations

Hi all.
What places and areas should I stay at in Izmir. I'm not interested to stay and hang out in "tourist" areas.
I want to go to decent and lively areas, where I could find locals and expats who actually live in the city.
Any recommendations for restaurants. Pubs ( with a pool table )and clubs also.

konak would be nice, depending on what your planning on doing. Another place is Eski Foca, the sea is beautiful and it's not very touristic, mostly local Turkish with their summer homes.
