You can exchange easily at any bank in Costa Rica. You can also use your ATM card most places.
Most hotels and tours will take dollars. You will need colones almost everywhere else.
Airport taxis will likely take dollars if you take them to your destination.
If you absolutely need colones, do not exchange much (less than $40) at the airport - the exchange rate there is horrible.
Don't worry about bringing colones, or exchanging at the airport. Wait till you get to a bank/ATM in CR.
