While the Taroko Gorge, Sun Moon Lake, A-Li Mt. and its giant cedars are somewhat impressive in Taiwan, such sights pale in comparison to the "oversized self-delusion" displayed by some SMEs. Unfortunately only Chinese readers are privileged to behold this phenomenon.
Simply go to one of the job sites in Taiwan to read the want ads especially seeking MERCHANDISERS.
I've worked with college grads in Taipei who can barely translate relatively simple Chinese into English as their main duty.
And yet the said SMEs want applicants fluent in English to do all business correspondence, ready to go abroad on business trips, follow up on orders, handle all documentation, liaise with subcontractors, quote on products, schedule production etc.
Occasionally they even ask for fluency in a second foreign language as German, French etc.
No wonder they keep looking for the "right" staffer.
