Zimbabwe faces bank liquidity crisis

Hello everyone,

Zimbabwe is currently facing a severe banking liquidity crisis. Cash withdrawal from banks and ATMs is now very limited or even uncertain.

Some international banks are no longer able to accept the opening of new bank accounts so as to prevent their clients from exceeding bank limits. Other banks have limited cash withdrawals to $ 1 000 per day. At local bank, customers are queuing up for hours to be allowed to withdraw around $ 200 only.

Foreign nationals who are on the spot or who intend to travel there are therefore advised to carry a sufficient amount of cash to be able to support themselves during their stay in Zimbabwe. Note that card payment is quite rare in some regions and rather underdeveloped in Harare, the capital city.
