Insurance coverage in the Cayman Islands

Hello everyone,

Moving abroad requires adequate insurance coverage.

What type of insurance expatriates need the most in the Cayman Islands: health, house or liability insurance? All of them? Do they come as a package?

Are there other insurance options to consider like critical illness, damage or property insurance?

Is it better to purchase insurance from an expat insurance specialist or from a local insurance provider?

And what about insurance costs?

Tell us about your experience in the Cayman Islands.

Thanks!

Kenjee

Premiums for Medical insurance and "destitution insurance" (pension contributions) are deducted from pay packets. A while back, and on another expat website (link below), I reminisced about the days when we used to receive our pay packets without any deductions at all - but those happy days are far behind us now. Property insurance is not compulsory unless one has a mortgage. We had a big hurricane come through here in 2004, but insurance covering damage from storms is quite expensive. My wife and I have our house insured against fire, but not hurricanes any more.
