Environmental protection in Scotland

Hi,

Environmental protection is a challenging issue for all the countries around the world. Would you say this issue is deemed of significance in Scotland?

Is the country going green through initiatives like waste management and selective sorting programs, renewable energies, public transport, green awareness campaigns and so forth?

How do you personally commit to improve the environment in your daily life?

We would greatly appreciate if you could tell us more about the various local initiatives for sustainable development in Scotland.

Many thanks in advance!

Kenjee

There is composting and recycling which may be contributing to less landfill but haven't seen any reports of what happens to it, only heresay to say it is dumped as too expensive to process. One thing they do need to concentrate on is reducing car use. Rush hour is mad with single drivers. More car pooling, more buses not less and better cycling infrastructure that is policed ie cycle lanes without obstruction motorised vehicles and potholes, rubbish etc. Generally the concept of using less energy is not really understood, only trying to find cheaper energy to preserve out standard of living no matter how it is harvested, which is not entirely 'green'. As far as outdoor environmental issues go, instead of keeping people away from sensitive regions to maximise protection, it is seen more as an opportunity to 'manage' the environment so money can still be made. I think the environment comes 2nd after making money out of the land.
