You can find cheap second hand pallets on big hardware stores, Crates are recycle so is better to have them customs made by a carpenter.

So, businesses don't throw them away? And the second hand ones you mentioned aren't sturdy enough to use for furniture?

No, they try to use them again. Usually are good enough to made furniture but they need to be sanded.
