Expired Visa

If someone is in Oman and his visa expires what are the changes he may likely face?

Hi DonTem,

It all depends on how long he intends to overstay in the Sultanate.

There is a 1-month grace period, by which time he has to renew his residence status, to be on the right side of the law.

Failure to renew the visa even by the grace period means the person is an 'over-stayer' and thus becomes an 'illegal immigrant' who is liable for prosecution legally.

Some day when he decides to leave Oman, he would get caught at the airport and depending on the period of over-staying he would be punished with either fines / prison sentence /
both.

I always advice members to follow the laws of the land, (after all we all are expatriates, and therefore are second-class citizens in Oman), and fix any legal issues before it becomes serious and gets out of hand.

Thank you Mr Sumitran
