Recommendations for Santo Domingo?

Hello Everyone!  My husband and I are heading to SD next week to take medical tests etc for our residence visas.   Can anyone recommend a hotel , places to see ,  good places to shop , and restaurants ?  Thank you so much!
cheers  Diana

Plan on a day or two and spend them in the Colonial Zone if you have not been there yet.  Lots of history to see, some very nice boutique hotels and great eats.

Exactly  what I say too,  go to the Colonial Zone and enjoy!

Just checked out of BQ on Sarasota Ave. Top shelf and close to immagration. Go through booking.com and you will get it for less than $80. About half price. Toni Roma's is close by, an excellent. So is the in house resteraunt. Hope you have better luck than we did, as one of the necessary offices was closed and we have to go back.

Thanks everyone!   We have a wonderful lawyer guiding us through the process.  She has set us up to meet her colleague in SD who will be escorting us !

Good luck.  If you are using Dolly as your lawyer you are in very good hands.

The Courtyard on Avenida Mámixo Gómez was a great hotel for us as we were traveling to and from the DR before making the move here.  The Zona Colonial is great, as others have said.  Also, the beaches of Juan Dolio are only some 45 minutes or so from the city.  It's an easy day trip to go dip your toes in the Caribbean.  Enjoy!
