Safety for children

Hello all,

My husband and I have been seriously considering a move to Ecuador for the past year. We have two small children age 3 and a half and 17 months. We are mostly looking in the Bahia/Canoa area. With the recent news of the baby abduction in Cuenca, we are obviously alarmed and worry that we may put our children in harms way. We realize that there is crime in every single country of the world, and Ecuador really does fit the picture of what we are looking for in most other ways. Are there any other expatriate families in these areas that can speak to us about safety and how they feel about the recent abduction?

Thank you!

Dear Cordell Family,

Welcome to the Ecuador forum.

We understand how sensitive any re-locating family with small children would be to news of a baby abduction.

The Cuenca baby was returned to its mother following a raid by a special police unit dedicated to eliminating the baby-for-sale racket.

Some posters on this forum have already expressed outrage at the perpetrators' actions.

Comparing abduction rates amongst countries might be more productive than encouraging posters to repeat how outrageous such an abduction is.
