Help needed in buying automatic transmission car

Hi folks,

I just wanted to know if anyone out there drives an automatic transmission car or intends to driving one? what are the advantages/disadvantages of driving automatic cars here in Romania? Plus I am interested in buying an automatic car and Google searches have led to very expensive cars or just plain stupid cars so nobody would buy them?

Essentially what I am asking for where can i buy Automatic transmission cars in Oradea?

It depends on how old the car is :)

For example, I bought an 89 Audi with an automatic trans, well it gave out on the way home from NL.  I took it to three mechanics and none could repair it correctly, they tried, but failed. One place was even specialized in VW/Audi cars. I ended up having to source a rebuilt transmission from Germany, have it shipped, and had it mounted.

If you get a new model with a automatic, you're probably ok as the dealers have their people trained how to work on these gearboxes.  But for old cars, you better be sure the transmission is in good shape because it will be quite difficult to get a repair made if you need one.  From what I heard, there is a automatic gearbox specialist in Cluj.

All that aside, I much prefer driving my old Audi and not having to shift, though the gas consumption is higher than my other car.  But in the city, it's definitely less stress with the auto.

Yes i figured that going to Germany or Austria or NL (as I have been suggested) would be an option to buy a car but it wouldn't be economical for me. Since i plan on driving a fairly cheap car (3000-5000 EUR) I don't think it would be feasible to go the distance. Having said that I have searched online and have come up short in terms of quality of car for the price asked. Anybody interested in selling their Automatic car? :P

The car I mentioned is for sale, but I imagine it's older than you'd want, though it's in great shape for a 26 yr old car. :D
