Mauritius move...advice and help needed!

my husband and I are looking into moving overseas from the uk to broaden our horizons. we have visited mauritius and fell in love and have looked into this being a place for us to venture to. I am a secondary school science teacher and my husband works in insurance but also has TEFL qualification.

we are looking for advice from teachers in mauritius and anyone who has made the move from the uk to the island. Opinion on cost of living and any relevant information that you feel is necessary we would love to hear from you!

Looking forward to hearing from you and helping us make that BIG decision to move! :)

Hi and welcome to Expat.com :)

There are quite a few of us English Expats here in Mauritius :)

I always say to people come for a month, hire a car and explore all the different area's, talk to the relevant people about work, you could arrange interviews/chats etc before you come.

Read all the threads on the Mauritius forum, there are many and this should give you an idea of our life in Beautiful Mauritius.

There are many Insurance/Management Companies operating from Cyber City in Ebene and also Port Louis, check out the job section, you could contact the Companies listed in these area's and see if there are any work opportunities for your husband.
The Governing body for Financial services etc on the Island is the Financial Services Committee - check out their webpage: http://www.fscmauritius.org/

Re you being a school teacher - I think I am right in saying many of the Government schools Science teachers speak French, I think that maybe the private schools will have English only speaking teachers, I am not sure about this.;(
Here is a list of secondary schools in Mauritius, Maybe contact them direct to see if there are any vacancies etc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_s … _Mauritius

This official site the Board of Investment gives you all the criteria needed etc for coming to live and work in Mauritius:

Check out myjob.mu and someone told me there is a recruitment Agency Adecco in Port Louis, not sure if it is still there?

Good luck and if you do decide to come to live and work in Mauritius there are 2 things that you will immediately notice, the friendly people and your quality of life :)

Hope this has helped you - Best wishes :)
