Summer is almost officially over with for the season and still have not driven to Balaton this summer.
Heard the traffic was very slow, 4 to 5 hours of drive time even on the highways due to large traffic flow.
Is it really that heavy mid week? Has anyone been for drive there this summer?
We are not interested in staying the night there, did that before we we prefer to drive round trip, sleep in our own bed in the city.
Thinking of over 5 hours on the road has put us off from going, should we give it a go anyways?

Not answering the question, but the fast train from Budapest to Siófok is only an hour and a half, and departs to and from the lake every hour or so. No traffic jams on the rail line. Ideal for a single day lake visit.

Sounds good, my husband can ride for free but then again, we usually bring half a house with us to the lake, guess we could back a suitcase to bring along!
Probably cheaper to just pay for my ticket there then to hassle with a highway pass, petrol and parking.
We were thinking of doing a ride share but so far we have not done it or looked into doing it, maybe next year we will give rides for petrol to the lake.
So far we have stayed in the city and done the pool thing.
