Looking for a Koh Samui local

My family is going to spend 2 months in Koh Samui and we need a local to accompany us to the market, teach us what ingredients to buy and show us how to cook Thai dishes.

You better pay a guide to visit, and go to cooking classes to learn as you will not bring people you don't know to your home, or you can put an advert in the classified section "Personal and household services jobs in Koh Samui" :  https://www.expat.com/en/jobs/asia/thai … vices.html  to look for a maid in this area with cooking experiences and references

Thanks for the advice.  Any idea on how much is the hourly rate of local cooks or domestic help in Koh Samui?

Don't think about hourly rate, minimum wage per day is 300 THB usually maid, housekeeper, manufzcturing worker, they don't have much than 9,000 -10,000 THB a month, sometimes there are living in, and you provide meal to them..

After it is up to you to negotiate what you want to give to people per hour

Some example : a gardener can ask like 300 THB to maintain a small garden, but he will come with 3/4 people, bring lawn mower, petrol, all the tools, bags, etc... and stay maybe an hour, to clean everything.

Now if somebody come to clean but you provide all the necessary products, etc.... you will pay just the labour cost..

Another example, cooking classes will cost from 1,000 THB up to very expensive if done by 5 stars hotel ( but this include all ingredient, depend what they will cook like seafood etc,, and depend how many people per lesson, the environment, the chef .... )

An hour thai massage ( not oil ) can cost 180-200 THB depends on area in Thailand, but Koh samui is an island and everything can be more expensive as also touristic area.

Another example you give 20 THB tip in a restaurant and not 10% of a bill of 1500 THB, as the waitress will be paid 300 THB per day ( approx 30-40 THB per hour if she work 8-10H per day )
