Papua New Guinean cuisine

Hi,

When living abroad, tasting the local cuisine is part of discovering the country.

What is your favorite food in Papua New Guinea?

What is the local speciality?

Share with us the local tastes of Papua New Guinea and why not your best recipe.

Thank you in advance,

Priscilla

PNG food is mostly starches, with a little protein thrown in. Cooking banana, pit-pit, lots of greens.. Aibika is a favourite, along with pumpkin tips and "charko lip".. Choko vine tips!. Foods here are often "grissed", boiled in coconut cream.

I love food cooked "aigil", like a mumu, on hot stones covered in earth, or mambu, stuffed ito bamboo tubes and cooked over a fire.

We get lots of fresh seafood here on the coast, too!

As for "western food", there's not too much we miss out on, with the local supermarkets having a great choice of Western stuff. I can even get great Mexican ingredients up here!
