Moving to Dhahran

Hi all

I'm due to move to Dhahran later this year. Hoping the forum will help me get situated as it did when I moved to Oman. Any advice welcome.

Hello Susan Peterson :)

Please do introduce yourself so that members can best advise you.

What is bringing you to Dhahran?

Regards
Kenjee

Happy to help.

Thank you for your replies guys.
Kenjee, I've been offered a nursing job on single contract, accommodation on a compound,  bus to work & malls. I'll miss the opportunity to drive and explore whilst in KSA but it's not a deal breaker for me. Going through the clearance checks at the moment, so hope be there by the end of the year. I believe I will be given a multiple entry visa. Previously I worked in Oman for 18 months. I'm currently back in the UK.

I've heard it's not too far to get to Bahrain for a break and less restricted lifestyle options. Is it a trip that can be done in a day? How would I travel to Bahrain. Will I be able to go to Bahrain alone?
Is there anything I should make sure to bring with me to KSA?
Is it easy to travel out of KSA as a single woman? What are good destinations within a short flight?
I'm interested in Yoga and Pilates, can anyone tell me if classes exist in Dhahran?
Socialising is limited to the compounds I gather, does it require invites or can a person attend on word of mouth?
That's all I can think of now but I'll probably be back with more questions, thanks.

Bahrain's a short trip away. 60-75 minutes on a good day. You can hire a taxi to go to Bahrain which costs around 200 SAR for a single trip. Or hitch a ride with someone.

It is just as anywhere else for a woman to travel abroad. Dubai's a favorite destination from here. There's lots of other nice places within 4-6 hours flight reach that you can go.

You must know someone to be invited to a party. People at work, colleagues. forums....etc...

Thank you for the information.

My employer has booked ticket, so I will be in KSA in the first week of September. Frantically packing now as it seemed like it would never happen.

I'd appreciate any last minute tips or advice. Thank you.

My tip, don't forget your abaya

Welcome! I live in Dhahran as well. There are a few places that offer classes. We should also be having judo lessons on my compound soon.
Where will you be working, and what field of nursing are you in?
Feel free to contact me when u get here.
Btw driving will be probably be allowed on your compound as it is legal for women to drive on compounds.

Thank you very much. I will be in touch once I get there and have a chance to find my bearings.
