Citizenship for the time-poor

Hi expats!

I am an Australian citizen living in London, wishing to gain Hungarian citizenship.

My grandparents were both Hungarian citizens, they left the country when my grandmother was pregnant with my mother, who was born in transit in Austria in 1956.

I am eligible for citizenship via both simplified naturalisation and verification but my issue is TIME. I am learning Hungarian at top speed to prepare for the naturalisation interview, but I would like to ask you all -

What is the fastest way of achieving citizenship? Applying in Hungary, getting lawyers to oversee the process, employing a specialised agency to oversee the process?

I know that the bureaucracy can't be speeded up too much, but I believe that there are ways of making sure that the process is not held up at any point etc.

Thanks in advance for your help fellow expats!!!

The consul I spoke with said applying in Budapest would be quicker, since applying through the consulate would detour the application through the Foreign Ministry first, and that might add a couple of months or so. That seems logical, but whether it is in fact the case, I don't know.

Supposedly, Simplified Naturalizations are handled by a newly-established office that operates more quickly than the office handling traditional naturalizations/verifications. Again, whether this is in fact the case, I don't know.

By the way, I thought Hungarian language proficiency was not required if you go the verification route.

Thanks for your quick reply Zif!

Hungarian language is not required for verification, but I'm choosing the simp nat route as verification would require a parent to already be a citizen (I can't wait for my parent's citizenship to process before I process my own).

Is it possible at all to forward me the details of the bodies that were useful to you? I am doing research atm and everybody is telling me different things!!

Thanks zif :)
