New bus fares and cards

Thanks, Danex2 and Rob, I did it this morning! But in the end of the process was an error.... But they said I'll be contacted by the technical team. Let's see.

I ordered my son's and mine and 2 days later i ordered one for my wife
today i found in mailbox cards for my wife and son, mine is still not here LOL

and ofc, both cards are without name and picture

There is a limit in the total charge that takes place per month at 26€.
Are the night trips of 2.5€ included?

I don't think so no

no, says so on the website

Looks like the balance checking has gone wrong again, I topped up on Thursday 16th, checked several times and as yet it has not shown on my balance online. Just now it gave me the balance as at 16th July which is not much use.
Taken the money from my bank though!

Ray

i got mine, top up is working and i'm using it

my friend still didn't get his, he called to check and they told him they have sent it to wrong address and they will resend it soon LOL

computer says NO

So guys, regarding the night trips, I believe that they are calculated normally.
I had a balance of 30€ at beginning. Now I have 3€ left and there is no charge during my last trips.
If we take into consideration that I had at least 2 night trips (2x2.5=5€), then I guess they must have been included.
If not I would still be at 22€ and not at 26€, that the free trips begin.

Will you be the millionth user of the tallinja card tomorrow they expect to hit that number and the person who is that user will win a years free travel - so get on the Bus

a years free travel - -  - -- - assuming you can get on the bus

Well I manage to get on buses lol - so useful for
me I suppose - plus they just added 40 new buses to the fleet

They added 40 buses and bus 31 or 41-45 seem to disappear around 5:30 in the afternoon.

A free hire car for 12 months, that would be a nice prize. Free travel on Maltese buses for a year, not so sure.

I've been trying to get a 5 euro top up added to my card for 2 weeks and after much messaging backward and forward this is the latest answer.

Dear Ray,
IT confirmed this: he has a 5 euro top up pending on the bus. It will eb added to his card next time he boards the bus. He boarded the bus on the same day he topped up.
Thanks

That was the IT response, it seems the balance only changes when you use the bus, as I have been in Germany since the top up, the online balance checker does not show what I added until I use the bus! not much point in an online balance checker if I have to use the bus first as I would see it when I boarded!

Ray

Well,

I have a card that I topped up with a 10 € scratch card and the balance showed up immediatly as 10 € ! It does not have a foto or even a name on it.

I used the card yesterday the first time and it deducted the correct amount when I boarded and showed my balance!

So whatever is being told is not exactly correct!. I recommend buying a top-up voucher and doing it online. That works fine. With other friends too.

Cheers
Ricky

My first online top up showed straight away and when I did the second top up using a debit card online  it showed my new balance straight away but then reverted to showing the previous balance when I caught the bus 1 hour later, it has remained showing an online balance as of the 16th July, without the top up,ever since!

Ray

Clearly a flawed system..

UPDATE:
Used bus and it showed full balance including top up, checked on line and showed full balance, sent message to Tallinja to say all was well but that there is no point in checking balance online if their system only shows balance when you last used the bus and got a message back to say they are aware of the problem!
Why not say that a fortnight ago instead of me having to keep on to them?

Ray

the point of a card is that you pay just 2 times a day (with some exceptions)

so i went on bus 22 and payed
after 1 hour I took bus 21 and it was free
after 1:30 hour i took 202 and I paid
then 5 hours after i took again 21 and again paid

wtf? asked the driver how can I pay 3 times in a day , response: ah, it happens, write a complain

still waiting for a response on that LOL

Where does it say that you pay only twice per day?

You pay every two hours it's only when it's capped at 26 euros you stop paying
Exceptions are children and blue card holders who's cap is 50 cts

I don't think it is as simple as paying every two hours or just paying twice a day. A payment is made for every journey. If it is a journey from A to B, involving changes of bus, then, payment is every two hours and it is the start of the final leg that counts not the end. But if the journey is from A to B and then a return journey from B to A, that will be two payments even if the return journey is within the two hours.

Example 1. I travel from the Airport to Victoria, Gozo on one payment (this requires using the card just before the bus leaves Luqa and getting off the ferry quickly and swiping the card on the bus in Mgarr with about five minutes to spare).

Example 2 I travel from Victoria, Gozo to St Julians on one payment. I have a drink and lunch then pay a second time to catch a bus to Valletta as this is not a continuous journey and it has gone over the two hour journey limit. After shopping in Valletta, I pay a third time and catch a bus back to Mosta where I stop for a meal. Then I pay a fourth time to get back to the ferry and on to Victoria.

Example 3. I travel from my village on Gozo to Victoria to post an important letter and pay for the journey. After a quick coffee, I catch the next bus home, about 30 minutes later, but pay a second time as this is a return journey.

That is my understanding anyway.

Question. If I interrupt a journey to have a quick drink, or two, but get back on a bus within the two hour limit, is this one payment or two?

if you use same route its considered two journeys so you get charged twice
if you go  81 to valletta have a drink and get 85 back to marsaxlokk then this is considered one journey as different routes *as long as you get on 85 within two hours of swiping on the 81
so the way to avoid paying twice is dont get on the same bus route number

I topped online with a debit card & it showed up immediately. The concession card is capped @ 50c per day & E2 per week.

wah wah I want a concession card - only 32 and a bit years to go lol
That or hopefully the specialist will decide my disability warrants one.

Ha ha, make the most of the next 33 years, there's lots to to do before you before you settle down into your rocking chair! As the old classic song has it "Zimmer time & the walkin' ain't easy"!
