UNIVERSITY OF MALTA
Office of the Registrar
Requirements for Admission to the University of Malta
Applicants for undergraduate level courses are required to satisfy the General Entry Requirements
for admission to the University of Malta. Applicants are also required to satisfy the Special Course
Requirements where applicable.
The General Entry Requirements are the following:
(a) the Matriculation Certificate; and
(b) passes at grade 5 or better in the Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) examinations in
English Language, Maltese* and Mathematics.
* The Admissions Board may allow non-Maltese applicants to offer, instead of Maltese, their own
language or a language approved by the Admissions Board. For the medical course commencing in
2015 or later, all applicants who are not in possession of a SEC pass in Maltese at grade 5 or better,
must present a Medical Maltese Proficiency Certificate which is awarded if applicants pass an
examination set by the University.
The Matriculation Certificate (www.um.edu.mt/matsec/regulations) comprises six subjects and is
awarded if students obtain 44 points or higher, including passes in a language, a humanistic and a
science subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled “Systems of Knowledge”.
In the case of applicants who pursued their secondary education outside Malta, the University would
accept comparable qualifications, provided that the required mix of subjects and levels would make
the qualifications comparable to the Matriculation Certificate Examination. The lack of a pass in
Systems of Knowledge by itself would not preclude acceptance, as long as other qualifications make
up for its absence.
The Admission Regulations may be accessed by clicking on the link:
http://www.um.edu.mt/registrar/regulati … _regs_1997
The Special Course Requirements are available at: http://www.um.edu.mt/for/prospective
Comparability of Grades Awarded by U.K. Examining Boards with the Grades awarded by the
MATSEC Board
Comparability of European Baccalaureate with the Matriculation Certificate and SEC requirements
Comparability of International Baccalaureate Diploma with the Matriculation Certificate and SEC
requirements

The question will always be : Why does a foreigner want to come to Malta to study medicine?

Malta is a small island and  on international standards the university is small. Specialist treatment is available through the health system in other countries , in particular in the UK.

The graduation will , of course, be recognized but the question is what is that worth in other countries.

Cheers

Thank you Ricky.
I was just asking info about Malta, so that I could have more choices regarding medicine faculty.  That's all.

Cheers,
