Iqama for newborn (with different nationality to sponsor)?

Hi guys,

Today I went to Jawazat to issue an iqama for my 3 month-old baby who was born in KSA.

I have dual nationality, and I came to Saudi with a British passport. My son has the Algerian passport at the moment.

Jawazat refused to issue my son an iqama because he has a different nationality than mine (I am his sponsor)! Yes, you heard it right! They said I must get him a British passport (which takes about 6 months to a year now) before they can issue an Iqama for him.

This causes a headache for me, as my holidays are in 2 months time and the claim to British citizenship for those born outside UK takes some time.

The last thing I want, is to be stuck here for the summer !

Can someone please tell me whether what happened to me is legitimate because I still have not seen a rule that says the sponsor and dependent have to have the same nationality?

Is there a way I can take the baby without an Iqama with me for holidays (outside KSA) and come back ?

Many thanks

Contact your embassy in saudi for temporary passport to take him outside.

All British passports are issued in the UK (the process is centralised, so no longer done by Embassies).
