12K Ringgits Salary-Experts Opinion Required!

Hello Everyone!

Hope u guys are doing well.
I am from Pakistan & new to this forum though ve been a silent reader for quite a few weeks now! & the way experts here answer the queries ve really impressed me.
Great job, guys :)

My Hubby has been offered an IT related job for 12k. We are a family of 4 (2 kids aged 4 & 1)
The medical for family ll b paid for by the firm. Rest all the charges are to b incurred by us.
His office ll be located at Golden Triangle area...

This ll be his first experience as an expat.
We are looking for a decent (say middle class) life style in KL.
Some of the related posts here said WE CAN. others said WE CANT.

What to do! Please help guys!

Regards.

P.s. Me & my kids hold British nationality & I am willing to work too. (I ve experience with UN)

Hi well can if you don't want to save any money, send your child to a poor school and cook at home. 12k for a single person can live ok. Two people plus two kids is breadline living. Malaysian middle class types would say the same and they get home advantages. Kl is a very expensive city. USA is cheaper to live in.

Being willing to work means nothing in Malaysia. Unless you are in a shortage area or are very lucky you wont find work and you will need the extra salary so I suggest you rethink the move unless your husbands company pays for the education bills. Most companies did automatically once now I always say families stay away from Malaysia without fees paid for.

:(  So the prospects are bleak!

Hello SanaAli

To be able to compare your salary with the kind of lifestyle you may have with your family in Kuala Lumpur, please visit other threads discussing the same issue in our Cost of Living in Kuala Lumpur section of the forum.

Typically a cleaner gets 3k (no tax), diploma holder ( below degree) 7k, mamak owner 12-30k per month (no quals needed) a bank supervisor in HO 12 k (ten years ago) and needed two working adults to survive (plus sold DVDs out of desk lol).

All those expensive cars and houses require income - official stats are really silly as average all Malaysia and ignore 2nd incomes (!) 12k salary in kl makes you lower than average so hard to survive as a family. Can do but not a great salary. If you have no job then obviously better than nothing. If you have a great job and a good school for the kids lined up then stay where you are. It all depends

Thank you guys, for all the help!

We r still in negotiating phase, though.
&
15k is what we are aiming for, at the moment. Will that be a better option?

Dear SanaAli,

Hello, I think RM15,000 would be much better off, where you will be able to save some for the rainy days. This is based on my opinion, not an expert after all.

Best Regards,
Andrew

Thank you so much Andrew.
Much appreciated.

The deal ain't sealed yet so will let you know if anything comes up!

its my pleasure, sure thing, thank you.

Best Regards,
Andrew

3k for a cleaner is a little far-fetched..  Although 12K salary for a family your size is going to be tough.

Hey everyone!

So, what about 14000 RM, with relocation & medical for all?
Do-able?

Sana-Ali  reaonable offer for single or couple with one child.

Gravitas,
As told in the first post of the thread, I ve 2 kids.

They company has also agreed to up the salary by 3k, after the probation period .

So, everyone???

SanaAli you potentially only have one schooling-going child and therefore education will cost from RM1750 for that child, depending on what standard you want. Bear in mind it could cost up to RM5k per month and there are large upfront payments to take into consideration. Kindergarten can be equally as expensive as schooling. So you alone can decide whether the offer is good, once you have done some research on where and when you want to school (or if you are considering home schooling plus some sort of socialisation programme).

Thank you so much, Gravitas. Highly appreciated.  :)

Are you sure its in the Golden Triangle. Because another member thought the same, but IT jobs are usually not in the City but out in the suburbs in service of IT Centres. That makes quite a bit of difference to the budget as rentals are quite a bit cheaper, say in Bukit Jalil for SC has its service centre.

Gravitas, The office location is
Technology Park, Bukit Jalil.
(I had told u previously about it, through PM)  :/

So decide on your schooling needs and work out a budget for those. Then you can see if the offer is realistic for meeting the expectations.

Will do that, many thanks!  :top:

So what happened? Did you guys join KL?
