What sort of travel? Backpack? Good Hotels? Can recommend a couple of tour companies that I have used.
Networking? That's easy, since you are a Yank try AmCham or my own personal favourite the FC Club (Fortune Connection Club).

If you could wait until December this year when I visit my family in Beijing, then maybe I could travel around Beijing and the surrounding places with you. 2 more months till my holiday.
I was born and raised in Beijing, but I'm an immigrant to Australia and have been living here for over 7 years. If you want someone to practice Chinese with, I should be available to help.
