Medications

are there limits on the amount of personal medications that can be brought in?

Don't do anything to make SENAE (EC Customs) think that you're bringing in narcotics for commercial resale.

If you bring just what you personally need for up to 90 days and have copies of your foreign doctor's original paper prescriptions, you should have no trouble.

Most pharmaceuticals are available in Ecuador*, as the current presidente declared in 2009 that health -- including access to needed medicine -- is a human right.

*Many drugs are available in pharmacias only in generic form, which, of course, is fine.  Sedatives and some other drugs require a "receta especial," available from specialists.
