What is needed to live in Beijing ? (From UK to China)

I would like to live in Beijing in around 4-5 years time. What do I need to do to make this possibly? I know that I would need to get a job in Beijing to give me income,but what do I need to satisfy to Chinese Government?

Do I get a long-term visa/work permit,should I marry my Chinese Girlfriend (she's from Beijing),do I need a sponsor .... you get the idea.

Dave hi,

Marry your girlfriend - for love not for visa because, amongst other reasons, it will not help you to get a work visa.

The current regulations are, and they are subject to change, that you have to be married at least 5 years before your can get the equivalent of a Green Card and (I think) have lived in China for at least three of those years.

You can though get a dependants visa which does not permit you to work.

Ideally, whilst you are still in the UK, find a company that appreciates your skills and who will provide you with a very generous relocation package to move you and wife to China.

Thanks.I would,of course,only ever marry her for love,never any other reason

I will now be trying to take this from 'zero' to 'living in BJ' as of today.
