Let's do the Visa run to Cambodia together

Hello everyone!

Since rates for a visa extension is too expensive and my free 21 pass is expiring, I'm planning to do a visa run to Cambodia next week.

Anyone who'll do the same? You'll be bored doing it alone. :)

There is a bus that goes from Pham Ngo Lau to the border of Cambodia. For Asean countries probably you can still stamp and go into cambodia and then come back in for another 30 days stay. You can enjoy the casinos too at that border town.

Cambodian casinos have been boarded up for a couple of years now. Guess Hon Sen couldn't turn a profit.

Does CHAU DOC require Cambodian stamps be in the passport?

Not in Moc Bai/Bavet border town casinos. Last I have seen and was inside the casino things are operating as usual. From HCM city this is the nearest to get your Visa run. Nothing much todo at the Cambodia but if you a gamer then try your luck at the casino tables. I had a good meal of Mi Nam Vang in the casino and is not bad at all.

Okay so I should ride a bus from HCMC to Moc Bai? And I can get a 3 month visa there, right?

You need to cross over into Cambodia and come back, you can only come back strait away if you are one of the visa exempt countries. If not you need to go to PP and get a new visa.

You can only stay in Indonesia for 60 days at a time with a Visa on Arrival, and then you need to leave the country if you want to return again

Countries below only get 30 or 15 days without visa. If you need a 3 months, 6 months, a year need to apply through embassy or immigration.

Vietnam Visa is not required for following countries and region within a period of time. Please check on our below list:

Country    Length of Residence
Singapore    Less than 30 days
Malaysia    Less than 30 days
Thailand    Less than 30 days
Philipine    Less than 30 days
Laos    Less than 30 days
Indonesia    Less than 30 days
Japan    15 days
South Korea    15 days
Sweden    15 days
Denmark    15 days
Finland    15 days
Norway    15 days
Russia    15 days

G'day Arni,   There's a fair chance there will be plenty of people going across . I have friends that left today as well. I'm going across for about 8 days at the end of next week. a few days  in PP and the rest in Sihanoukville on the beach.  The way things are shaping up it could be a regular 3 monthly trek.   Ah well , it's all part of being a long term traveller.   Good luck.

Sorry I cannot go with you this time but you do a very affordable trip to the border town of Bavet. If you have more time you can take a bus to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap in Cambodia. If not and you need a short trip, then take a bus to Bavet and make a U turn back. Check out my trip at below link:

I'm a little confused by this as I've always extended my visa by going through one of those visa extension services, if you go to Cambodia and come back you get an extra 30 days or what?

You will have to go and get another visa, unless you are from one of the exempt countries. After a few months it will settle down, another grab for cash before Tet.

I spent a year in VN before going back to the states for the holidays. while here, I would simply pay to get an extension every 3 months. simple enough, right? But now with all this noise about laws being changed and fees going up, I'm starting to feel a little uneasy. If I make a run to Cambodia at that time, will I be able to get a 3 month visa at PP? Can someone share some info about this? I've never been on a visa run before and I'm unsure about the specifics.

Also, if anyone is planning to go to Cambodia in march, we should link up. I'd rather not go there alone.

Hi there,

You don't need to go to Cambodia border to renew you visa.  You just go to 161 Nguyễn Du, P.Bến Thành, Q.1, TP.HCM.  It will cost you around 120k vnd for 3 months.

Cheers!

Are you sure about that Tamalou
There has been some changes to the law as of 1st January 2015

It's never been 6 usd for a visa extension, not sure what you are smoking.

actually if you go to that address it was the cheapest way to get an extension before the new law change. But it meant taking a Vietnamese friend with you and it usually took two visits to get everything correct but once you know all the right things to do and say it was very cheap. After all this is where the Travel agents go on you behalf for a hefty fee.

I think you will find that is a VEC extension, not a standard tourist visa extension which are completely different.

In this new law,if i will apply new visa, how many months they can give us to stay?and how much it will cost in all in dollars?

Hi,
Depends on what visa you need. Unlikely to get it renewed/extended in Vietnam anyway.  So...jump the bus to Phnom Penh, and get a travel agent to do it for you. They only charge $10 service fee. The 3 mth single entry quoted was $105 inc fee,  multiple entry $135 inc fee.

These figures are from 6 agents that I've spoken to.. They are all very similar, some do a same day service.  The Embassy price is the same, so just relax and get the agent to do the work.

I enquires about other Visa , but they mainly handle tourist stuff.

just Google Phnom Penh travel agents and email them.  Listening to Visa agents here is frustrating to say the least.  Take a holiday, kick back ,relax and see some country side.

Hi,

Have you been to cambodia(Mocbai) and back to HCMC?
I'm going there on 2 Feb. You might want to follow me.

Tom

I think this way also cheaper to extinction Visa  Just go to the bus station the end of the park at Phang Ngu Lao street and take a bus MOC 703, its cost only 40kVND and go to the border and U back to Vietnam. But you must enter to Cambodia  and come back as well same day.

Who informed you that you will get a visa at the border.? I'm assuming you are doing that.

I'm told you have to go to Phnom Penh and get the Visa.

I was also told (by an agent) that they do VOA visa on arrival at the border, ???? BUT , the govt advice is that VOA are only for AIR arrivals.
You had better check before you go.

Then I have no idea.  When I was in Vietnam i did that same way but I had 5 years visa so I had no problems.

Then if you're not in Vietnam now why are you posting outdated info which has no bearing on the current visa situation since the1st January 2015 when they changed all the visa rules.

...

VOA is available ONLY at the airport and some passports (e.g. Nepal) are NOT eligible for a VOA.

If you are working, just get working permit ( Visa) lah.

If not, u need to becareful : you cant enter to Vietnam more than 2 times/month If its Travel Visa. (VOA)

Can I get 3months extension at moc bai?

Moc Bai is a border station, you can't do visas at the border. You must do it in Phnom Pehn or somewhere else before arriving.

Thanks,  I have this invitation letter and its approve already that I am allowed to extenad business visa, can I pass the border in moc bai and go to ho chi mihn?

Not sure what the invitation letter is. Do you have a visa in your passport or are you talking about a VOA,visa on arrival.

Nope not yet, I am here in phom phen now. I exit Vietnam yday passing moc bai, my friend will send me the so called approved letter so I don't know what to do next? Hope u can help

The  approved letters Lunda like a visa on arrival, which can't be used at land borders. It must be used at the airport.

Oh? When I travelled yday I met an english guy who also needs to exit same as me, he has approved letter stating that he can enter using moc bai border and he didn't get into the bus again which means he was able to u-turn, in my case I can also do the same only that they did not accept coz the travel agency mistype my entry it states there mong cai instead of moc bai so I am waiting the revised now..

Ok, it must be a new system where you get a letter, I have never had to do it so not sure how it works.
