Hello!

My name is Brigitte.  I have 2 children (5 and 2).  My husband has the opportunity to work in Mexico City for 2-3 years.  We homeschool-unschool.  We are seriously considering this option.  We have lived there prior to kids.  We lived for 2;5 years in La Condesa, D.F.  Absolutely loved our time there.  We enjoyed traveling around the country discovering and learning new things about Mexico`s history and culture everywhere.  Perhaps we will move back soon!

Helllllo! my name is Demika and im an Australian from the beautiful Gold Coast. i recently travelled to America and mexico(cancun) with a few girlfriends experiencing the real American experience.. from riding bikes around central park to the pool parties in Los Vegas to snorkelling and sunbaking on the beauitful beaches and living the LOCO party life of Cancun. Amongst my travels in Cancun i met a Mexican boy so far ive been back three times (this year and last year) , we are currently in the process of getting his passport and visa sorted. The process of the visa application for him to move to Australia is unknown and could possibly take months/years.. so in the meantime im contemplating moving to mexico and living his life before he makes a life changing decision to move here and live mine. Just curious as to what my options are.. i intend on learning Spanish and because he works unitl 10pm , 6 days a week maybe i can do a course 3-4 days a week? another option is getting a job myself or even volunteer work? Ive done my research and i know it can be quite difficult when it comes to occupations there. If anyone knows any information about this or knows anyone that can help me please message me would love any response :)

Hi,
I have been living in Mexico for 3yrs now.Where I live(Merida) there is very little in the way of work for foreigners which is understandable.A couple of things I could suggest to you if you are living in Cancun is call centre work. There are a few companies in Cancun who employ english speakers because their market is USA and Canada.Another suggestion is teaching english, some places you dont need to know much spanish but the more you know the better. As you probably know you can get a tourist visa for 6 months but it would be better to get a temporal visa in Ausralia before you travel to Mexico.

Thankyou so much for your help! :)

Hi there, I live in Canada and I am preparing for my life in Spanish speaking countries. One, of course, is Mexico. I have been taking Spanish lessons with Warren Hardy School of Spanish and it has been amazing.  You can buy the Level 1 online course that includes, workbook, videos and games to practice. To enhance the learning experience, I also connect once/week Skype with my instructor in San Miguel del Allende, Mexico to practice my skills. I am proud to say I am finishing level 1 and heading into level 2 next week. I am a certified adult education specialist (English) and love the way their course is designed. I recommend Warren Hardy.  Good luck.

Good afternoon everyone,
It looks like my job is taking me south of the border into San Miguel de Allende.  If there's anyone who lives there that can share some particulars, I'd be in your debt.  I make my first visit next month and am looking forward to the sun after another brutal Michigan winter.

Cheers,
Ken

Hi! My wife and I have been living in Ensenada B.C. for 4 1/2 years now. And I've only found the time to visit this site now. We've been busy! We moved here to help the deaf (and because we can afford to live here on my little pension). We've found deaf people scattered throughout the Baja peninsula. Many have little or no support to communicate or learn. In fact we found a 12 year old girl on a farm outside of Colonet and when we first met her she had no language at all. Oh, she is as smart as a whip buy her parents are poor farm laborers and there was no way for her to get an education. So, we visited once a week for 3 years or so and taught her (and her family). Now, she lives with us in Ensenada. Her parents wanted her to go to school so they asked if she could stay with us. What a joy she is - she's like a daughter to us! I could tell you about Marco too. We visited him for 4 years. He is skilled in American Sign Language but again had little support in San Quintin. So, he moved here as well - not to our house but he visits often.

We retired and are starting a new Mexican family.

If you know of any other deaf we'd be happy to visit them if they are near enough that we can get there, just send me as much information as possible.

Wayne

Hey, Ken, welcome to San Miguel..!  You'll love it here, but acclimation can be a bit tough--I'm happy to provide any input/suggestions/feedback that would help....have been a six-year expat here myself and am a top Realtor here in town.
Buen Viajes!
