Special Needs Education - school for children having down syndrome

Are there any English Language schools that cater for special needs children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia??
We might move to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia soon and we are looking for such a school for our 14 year old daughter who has Down Syndrome.

Hello KADahab and welcome to

Hope that some members out there will be able to inform you whether there is such facility in Addis Ababa.

(Moderated: No racist comment). Ethiopia is not a place for disabled people. Myself I'm only coming to Ethopia because of one man. I am sad to write down such a harsh statement but it is my impression and my sadness.

Whether there are suitable schools I can't say. Just to tell you to be aware of getting insulted and pointed with their (moderated: inappropriate comment) fingers. I am crying seeing disabled Ethiopian people set out on streets for BEGGING (!) from their own families! Maybe you can work as a role model to treat your kid as "normal" (sorry).

I wish you all the best.

Hi i am mother of mosaic Down Syndrome 4 month kid i am so dissapointed and nerves bs of luck of information and support so that pleas i need your help.

Their is a very well known school in Addis which have 3 branches. Its called Hill Side school. Its the best school i know. It might help.

The International Community School of Addis Ababa has a Transitions Program as part of the Student Support Services, with limited spaces for students with special needs such as Down syndrome or autism. You can learn more on the school website:

I have a 7 yr old girl with down syndrome. Currently looking for school for next year.

She been going to nursary school.  I a bit stressed because most remedial schools told me that they don't take children with down syndrome. Private schools are quite expensive.

Currently staying in roodeport. Pleasure share information with regards to school I van approach.

Unfortunately, ICS and Andinet are the only ones I have heard of

Education for children with Special Needs is desperately needed and almost non existence -

I am an Education Specialist from the US and created H2T as an international center for children ages 6 months to age 6 - 9 years ago.

We have started a program for younger children with special needs - at this time specifically Autism.  Myself and some parents of ours are interested in continuing the program up through elementary and hopefully beyond - a big project that won't be ready until August 2018.

please contact me if you would like more information or if I can be of any further help on your move/transition to addis!
