Closest beach to KL

The closest real beaches are in Thailand. There is nothing much in Malaysia, unless when it is the season (i.e. not monsoon) you go to islands off the east coast or Sabah (only the ones off the east coast as there have been kidnappings and murders from ones on the west coast). I am afraid the beaches are generally not maintained and are therefore dirty and often have lots of trash that is washed in. The water is also murky and unappetising.  However, there are a couple of major hotels in Port Dickson that have a bit of beach and pool.  Generally the best beach weather in Malaysia is March to August and December to April in Thailand.

There are a couple of islands and beaches off Johor area, but generally speaking its all tourist hype and nothing like this available near KL. The prices are also eye watering.

Redang
- This has more resort choices and also beautiful white sand and clear water beaches.

Rawa
- This is a very small island and only has two resorts. Nothing fancy but it is a beautiful beach retreat. White sand and blue, clear water.

Pulau TIoman

Philippines have some good beach.
