Moving to KL: cost of living

Hi all,

I am new to this blog and I got an offer from my company as Project Manager in Malaysia.
Currently I am living in Germany.
The job will be located 50% in KL and 50% in Tanjung Malim so I think I will look for a house near KL.
I will move with my wife.

My company offered my the following
Base Salary 11.000 MYR
Housing, Transport and retirement founds 6.000 MYR

I reviewed a lot of posts but I am still confused.
Can anyone help me we can do a good living from that?
Does anyone know if housing, etc is subject to income tax?

BR,

K.

Hi Kiste
this is the best post about cost of living in KL
http://malaysiala.com/cost-of-living-in … e-malaysia

depending on your lifestyle, 17000 is enough to live well
the area you would want to live, will also be important as it can go from 3000 to 6-7000 MYR very easily if you re close to the center or not  and the type of house/condo you want to live in.

i dont know of the income for your housing/transport fee, I think this will depend on the way the money will be given to you.

hope this will help

You will pay income tax on your whole remuneration package. Living in Mont Kiara might be convenient to start the 1 hr + journey by car to Tanjung Malim.

Properties tend to be a little more expensive to rent in MK, but there is plenty of choice. Your budget would probably need to be Rm 4000-6000 per month.

It would have been advisable to negotiate for a car to be included in your package so you dont have to have the expense of hiring a vehicle, which will cost about RM 1500-2000 per month.

Here are the tax steps - you need to add each line up until you reach the value of your entire annual package then divide by twelve to find the monthly deduction.

Tax steps on annual salary are:
                 2015
0-5,000                    0%
5,000-10,000      1% RM50
10,001-20,000    1%  +RM50
20,001-35,000    5%  +RM750
35,001-50,000   10%  +RM1,500
50,001-70,000   16% +RM3,200
70,001-100,000   21% +RM6,300
100,001-250,000  24% +RM36,000
250,001-400,000  24.5% +RM36,750
Exceeding 400 000  25%  (+?)
